The car traveled 147' on the roadway before going into a field on the north side of the highway. The vehicle then traveled 103' before striking a tree nearly head on.  Investigators found the engine and its housing approximately 63'' beyond the point of impact.  Two neighbors who witnessed the accident estimated the Pritchett vehicle was traveling 60-75 miles an hour before the crash occurred Leonard said.

Witnesses told Leonard the driver was thrown from the behicle. They also reported the youth went to the auto and attempted to resuscitate Miss Goode, who was trapped inside.  Miss Goode was a junior at North Montgomery HS where she played the bass clarinet in the school's marching band.
